Daltile Interior Design Scholarship Competition

The photographer Hans Hammarskiold’s photography piece “Snow on Slats” was a great inspiration for this design. The photograph presents an interesting combination of industrial pieces and nature. The overlapping lines of the white slats of the bench and the black branches of the tree makes people feel as if they are standing in the middle of a snowy city park with crystal flakes falling all around them. It looks like quite a beautiful site. Bathrooms often call for clean lines, and colors such as black and white. People like their bathrooms to feel clean always, and the white elements help achieve this. The art piece brings in a bit of nature to such a modern space and makes the occupants feel a little more comfortable. The Daltile products offer an amazing blend of textures, colors, and patterns. To emphasize the horizontal lines of the abstracted slats, long and linear tiles were used to achieve this look. An organic free form shape such as the tree required organic forms which Daltile’s mosaics line was perfect for.
